Description
"Birch Trees Survive" by Debbie Oppermann. The Pickerel River is a tributary of the French River Ontario Canada and some areas were greatly affected by the very large Parry Sound Forest Fire 33 in 2018. When motoring down the Pickerel River outlet in our motorboat we eventually got to the last area where the forest fire was extinguished. The forest fire was devastating but as fires sometimes go, some trees were burnt and others not, some trees are still alive inside and some trees were completely gone. It was hard to believe that two Birch trees survived the fire while the trees around them were burnt. The approaching thunderstorm with the dark clouds made us try to find a place to tie up the boat and escape the elements but as it turned out, the storm just missed us.
