Description
"Church Of St Bonaventure Killarney" by Debbie Oppermann. The village of Killarney is situated on the North Channel of Georgian Bay and is a popular tourist spot for those cruising the bay in their boats. It is home to the Church Of St Bonaventure and the famous Herbert Fisheries where you can eat the world famous fish and chips. The church was built in 1951 on the site of the previous St Joseph church. It is a very pretty, quaint church made of brick, stone and wood. The statue of St Bonaventure resides in an alcove above the decorative wood and brick tympanum. Small stone pillars edge the concrete walkway to the steps at the main entrance. The understated architecture embraces the simple village life in northern Ontario.
