Description
"Countryside Castle" by Debbie Oppermann. This castle was built singlehanded by a real mason. Each rock or block was hewn by hand on the property using sound vibration from the hammer swing. The first level is below ground and made in the early medieval with roman archways and has a very large keystone to support the weight of the whole structure and prevent it from tilting. The next level is gothic and the last level is renaissance . The man who built it was a German who immigrated to Canada at Pier 21 after the Second World War. The man who built it was already a senior and he built the castle for his wife. This piece of architecture is a little romantic masterpiece between lovers. In the very basement, the keystone at the top of the Roman arch is an actual meteorite that landed in that area. The foundation keystone that I mentioned is a gigantic stone in the center of the floor. Woodwork for the roof is very renaissance German with crisscrossing wood struts--fabulous on inside! With spiral staircases and arrow slits, everything a real keep would have. Just fabulous, wonderful work by a craftsman.
