"Grackle On Cattail" by Debbie Oppermann. Even though the Common Grackle is a noisy nuisance, it is a beautiful black bird with a blue head, glossy iridescence in the right light and just the right amount of arrogance! The roadside pond in rural Guelph Ontario Canada was home to a few bird parents that had babies to feed and this Grackle was no exception. This beautiful black bird had the insects in it's beak ready to feed the babies hiding in the thick cattails and reeds at the edge of the pond.
