Description
"Henvey Inlet Wind Farm II" by Debbie Oppermann. In 2014, Henvey Inlet First Nation - through its subsidiary Nigig Power Corporation partnered with Pattern Canada to jointly develop the 300 MW Henvey Inlet Wind project. This project is a one-of-a-kind venture and it is both the largest single-phase wind project in Ontario, as well as the largest First Nation wind partnership project in Canada.
Construction on the Henvey Inlet Wind project began in 2017 and reached commercial operation in October 2019. The project is bringing hundreds of jobs to the community and will have a significant positive impact on the Georgian Bay area's local economy and Henvey Inlet First Nation.Wind energy is one of the cleanest and most reliable energy sources. Turbines are harnessing the wind's power and transforming it into the energy we need to run our devices and heat our homes.
Now, having said all that good stuff about wind energy, the downside on this project was that a disabled vehicle started a huge fire in a remote area that consumed forests and destroyed homes, cottages and natural wilderness areas for over 11,000 hectares. It was the Parry Sound 33 fire of 2018. This image shows the wind turbines near the shore of Georgian Bay at the Key River.
