"Horned Lark Walking To The Corn Stalks" by Debbie Oppermann. I have been searching for the Horned Lark all winter and finally found a plowed corn field on the outskirts of Guelph Ontario Canada where there were quite a few of these songbirds. Trying to get a close capture of these small birds requires a little patience as just driving down the road from a distance seems to startle them and they fly further into the field. So you sit and wait until they return. This little Lark was just strolling across the snow to get to the corn stalks in the field. They are small birds with a long body and small bill, brown above, pale below with a black chest band.The males have a black mask, yellow on the head and throat and tiny black hornlike feathers on the head which are not always visible. They are pretty darn cute.
