Description
"Hovering Osprey" by Debbie Oppermann. I had heard that the pair of Osprey were back at the nest at Wilson's Flats, Grand River, near Elora, Ontario Canada and was not disappointed when I went to check it out. I watched them for quite awhile and in this image the male had left the nest at least half an hour ago and he was still looking for food. He would hover over an area on the river for a bit then move on to another spot. It seemed to have a hard time finding fish. The Osprey, Pandion haliaetus, is also called a sea hawk, fish eagle, river hawk and fish hawk. It is a very large powerful raptor, bird of prey, whose diet consists mainly of fish and builds the most immense nest made out of mostly branches but also rope, strips of cloth and whatever else it finds.
