Description
"Pileated Woodpecker Checking The Cracks" by Debbie Oppermann. A Pileated Woodpecker is a very large, striking, forest bird with red crest, white and black plumage that sounds like a jack hammer while searching for food in the forest. You can hear them for sure but as soon as you get close enough for a shot, they're gone. This male Pileated could hear me, and then saw me, but was more interested in the foraging for food in the cracks of the bark on the trees.
