Description
"Pileated Woodpecker In Dappled Morning Light" by Debbie Oppermann. When on vacation I am out and about at sunrise hoping for some great bird shots in the early morning light. I absolutely love the Pileated Woodpecker and was thrilled to see it in the Oak tree in the dappled light just after sunrise. He was just so handsome! A Pileated Woodpecker is a very large, striking, forest bird with red crest, white and black plumage that sounds like a jack hammer while searching for food in the forest. You can hear them for sure but as soon as you get close enough for a shot, they're usually gone.
