Description
"Porcupine In Fall" by Debbie Oppermann. When out walking a trail in the autumn, at the arboretum in Guelph Ontario Canada, we spotted a large Porcupine up a tree. This was very aware of us within minutes and watched us until we moved on. Their long strands of brown hair looks soft but thousands of quills are tucked inside. Each quill is hollow, yellowish in color with a black tip and covered in tiny barbs and this is their protection against predators. It is said that each Porcupine has over 30,000 quills! They are excellent climbers and trees are their habitat.
