"Spanish Moss" by Debbie Oppermann. I was fascinated by the gray Spanish Moss hanging from the branches of larger trees at the Fakahatchie Strand State Preserve. The first thing I learned is that it is not Spanish and it is not moss. It is an epiphyte or air plant which absorbs nutrients from the air and rain. It is also known as Grandpas Beard because it is long and gray. I like this image as the sunlight shining through the branches really enhances the delicate looking hanging pendants of gray.
