Description
"Tamarack Visitor" by Debbie Oppermann. The Tamarack, Larch, Larix laricina, is a deciduous conifer, which is, that it is a deciduous tree and it's leaves are needles that turn yellow and drop in the fall. It's a beautiful tree and quite lovely in autumn with the yellow needles, bumpy branches and very small cones. The American Goldfinch, Spinus tristis, or Eastern Goldfinch, with it's yellow and black plumage perched so nicely on the almost bare branch, is a beautiful small songbird that will migrate just a little further south than Guelph Ontario Canada, in the winter. The tree needles and the Finch's coloring compliment each other and are quite eye catching.
