Description
"The Pine Tree" by Debbie Oppermann. The Pickerel River is a tributary of the French River Ontario Canada and some areas were greatly affected by the very large Parry Sound Forest Fire 33 in 2018. When motoring down the Pickerel River outlet in our motorboat we eventually got to the last area where the forest fire was finally extinguished. In this section we could venture no farther as the cascades were just around the corner, but just as we were entering this part of the river we could see this burnt Pine tree on the rocky ridge and it looked sad but beautiful. The fire had hit it but left it intact with pine cones still on it. It was charred black but if you look closely you can see some light brown parts where it looked like birds or animals maybe were searching under the bark to get to the part that was still alive. The forest fire was devastating but as fires sometimes go, some trees were burnt and others not, some trees are still alive inside and some trees were completely gone. This particular tree just stood out and I not only found it fascinating but extremely beautiful it's fire damaged state. Beauty in nature!
