Description
"Vintage Eiffel Tower" by Debbie Oppermann. On our way to Egypt we had a 5 or 6 hour layover in Paris France so we had planned on hiring a taxi to take us on a tour of the highlights of Paris. We visited just a few of the iconic landmarks including the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Constructed from 1887 to 1889 as the entrance to the 1889 World's Fair, it was initially criticized by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The Eiffel tower history represents a part of national heritage. It's has been the symbol of France and Paris for decades. But when Gustave Eiffel achieved its construction in 1889, the tower was only meant to be temporary in the Parisian landscape and was far from being the parisians' favourite landmark. Luckily, the art nouveau tower’s popularity assured its survival.
