Description
"The Hummingbird Imposter" by Debbie Oppermann. This delightful Clearwing Hummingbird Moth, Hemaris, with its long antennae and curling tongue (proboscis) kept me enthralled for quite some time while visiting the University Of Guelph Arboretum. The purple Butterfly Bush bloom, Buddleia, seemed to fulfill its nectar needs as it would leave and a minute later it would return. I had never seen this unique moth before and was thrilled to be able to capture this image. It is called a Hummingbird imposter because it nectars, hovers and hums just like a Hummingbird!
