Artist's Description
"Maps On The Rock" by Debbie Oppermann. Can you see four Map Turtles? Three up, one down! I was thrilled to spot these Northern Map Turtles, a species of concern, on the French River Ontario Canada. These Northern Map Turtles, at the slightest hint of danger, slip into the water. The Map Turtles are a freshwater turtle and the light markings on the shell resemble the contours of a map, hence the name. They like large bodies of water and areas with fallen trees, are carnivorous and feed on molluscs, insects and crayfish. These reptiles were enjoying the sunny day as they soaked up the sun on a rocky outcropping. It is always a thrill to see turtles as they are one of my favorite animals.
