"Merganser Skirting The Snowy River Rocks" by Debbie Oppermann. The cinnamon headed female Common Merganser is one of my favorite ducks. I love their coloring with reddish brown head, gray plumage and red bill, the graceful elegance as they glide on the water riding low with their streamlined bodies. This beautiful Merganser was one of a few that were spotted on the Speed River in Guelph Ontario Canada in late fall after a snowfall. The river rocks and shore had a nice layer of snow that really enhanced the scene and the little duck swam lazily around the rocks on shore trying to catch up to the others.
