Description
"Old Chain Black And White Abstract" by Debbie Oppermann. I am not quite sure what this weathered, corroded, iron link chain was used for but I can assume it was used for anchoring or hauling something as it was laying on the rocky shore of Thistle Island, Georgian Bay Ontario. I love finding unique and interesting things wherever I go and this rusty chain with the rough, pitted texture was perfect as an abstract piece and lovely in black and white as well as color. Rust occurs when iron or its alloys, such as steel, corrode. The surface of a piece of iron will corrode first in the presence of oxygen and water. Given enough time, any piece of iron will change entirely into rust and disintegrate. The process of rusting is a combustion reaction, similar to fire.
