Description
"Solidago" by Debbie Oppermann. One of the loveliest of the native autumn flowers is the bright yellow Goldenrod, Solidago which is found growing wild in fields, ditches, roadsides, forests and cultivated. It is beautiful and attracts bees and butterflies. This Solidago was especially lovely with the filtered morning light coming through the trees in the woods in Guelph Ontario Canada. The flowers are edible and make attractive garnishes on salads. Flowers and leaves (fresh or dried) are used to make tea. Leaves can be cooked like spinach or added to soups, stews or casseroles, and can also be blanched and frozen for later use in soups, stews, or stir fry throughout the winter or spring.
