"Turkey Vulture Attitude" by Debbie Oppermann. The Turkey Vulture, cathartes aura, or Buzzard, is a scavenger that feeds on carrion. It is unique among vultures in that it finds carrion by smell as well as sight. When threatened it defends itself by vomiting powerful stomach acids. It is black with brownish tones and has a red head with ivory bill. They can soar the wind currents for hours without flapping their wings. This particular Turkey Vulture was captured, showing attitude, at Key River Ontario Canada.
