Description
"White Throated Sparrow Tan Striped" by Debbie Oppermann. The White-throated Sparrow is unique because it has a mating pattern like no other bird. There are two colour morphs, white-striped and tan-striped, and males and females can be either morph. The unique part is the fact that a pair is usually made of one of each colour morph. This apparently occurs because white-striped males are aggressive compared to tan-striped males. This beautiful, colorful Tan Striped White Throated Sparrow perched on a vine at the arboretum in Guelph Ontario Canada is quite attractive with a buff-on-brown face pattern instead of white-on-black.This is another migrant songbird from the north that I look forward to each winter.Their whistling song is described as Oh - Sweet - Canada - Canada - Canada or Poor - Sam - Peabody - Peabody - Peabody. It is quite lovely and loud.
