Description
"Juvenile Female Pileated Woodpecker" by Debbie Oppermann. A Pileated Woodpecker is a very large, striking, forest bird with red crest, white and black plumage that sounds like a jack hammer while searching for food in the forest. You can hear them for sure but as soon as you get close enough for a shot, they're gone. This juvenile female Pileated Woodpecker was more interested in foraging for the ants on the ground than caring about how close I was to her. Lucky me, as I was almost on top of her I was so close!
